Two Months of Travels
Personal, business trips to various places result in some interesting images
Downtown mural in Columbia, S.C. — October 2022
When you grow up in Texas, going out of state is a big deal, in large part due to simple size and geography. West to east is 773 miles at its widest point, and north to south in a straight line is just over 800 miles.
Living in Northern Virginia, I drive through three states (Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey) just to go to New York City. To give some perspective, that is less distance than from Houston to Dallas.
But travel is travel, and when you do a lot of it in a short period of time, you also have an opportunity to take some interesting — albeit random — photos. As summer ended and fall has begun, between business and personal trips I’ve been fortunate to catch some nice sunrises, sunsets, and other interesting images in between.
Here are a few from travels since August to Delaware, New York City, Columbia, S.C., Santa Fe, Texas, and across the state of Virginia. Note: To see the photos full size, tap or click on the image.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this “Visual Diary” entry. Which photo do you like the most?
As always, feedback and suggestions for future entries are welcome, as are comments. I’ve also put the Visual Diary entries into a separate section on my Substack page. Click on the button below to see #1 and #2.
Finally…
Everyone likes their pets, even the ones that want to bury their noses in the earth. The photo at left is of our beloved Penny (the dog with the human eyes). Top right is a close up of her snout, which gives you some some insight into why her sense of smell is so acute. And while I was in a pet store in Webster, Texas, in September, I couldn’t resist getting the bottom right photo of two sleeping kittens. They were just too cute…
If forced to pick, I'm taking the mural in Columbia, SC. That was the last state I checked off my list, and I spent most of the visit wondering what had taken me so long to get there.
The hotel picture is a close second; it somehow feels timeless- like it could've been taken in 1964, '84, or last week.
Thanks for sharing. I like the sunset in Gordonsville the best!
Keep shooting and sharing
