It’s been some time since I’ve written an essay on life, music, and other random thoughts, in part because my schedule for the past 10-12 weeks has been intense. All — or at least mostly — good intense, but still…
Given that it’s unlikely my circumstances will change over the next couple of weeks, I thought it might be time for a quick life update. I just finished shooting a conference for one of my longest running clients in New Orleans, which followed five days in a dark auditorium working on a dance recital.
That in turn followed filing a magazine story — the last part of which was written in Italy, no less — and shooting two conferences, a graduation, and a benefit performance. Don’t forget that Jill also was a commencement speaker for UNC’s School of Education last month.
Meanwhile, our youngest child performed on the Tony Awards with his partner, and the oldest child and his wife are getting ready to hold a christening for my second grandchild next weekend.
Did I mention that my mom, who will turn 83 in a few weeks, is coming from Texas to Durham for the christening? Or that Ben and Emma and Colby are coming from New York, albeit separately, and leaving at different times? Or that Kate and Matt, who have been dealing with some major medical issues on his side of the family, are finding a way to come down as well, bringing the grand dame of the grandchildren to meet her first cousin for the first time?
So unless it’s obvious by now, I haven’t had much time to muse on, well, anything.
But the weekly photo updates are continuing. It’s tough to reconcile that we are more than six months into the “52 Weeks” project, but I guess that’s what happens when you’re too busy to blink.
Enjoy this week’s edition!
If you’re new here, “52 Weeks” is my Saturday series featuring seven random images taken during my photography career. Each photo has a short caption that includes the place and month/year it was taken.
I hope you’ll pick your favorite(s) and let me know your thoughts. I’m happy to provide additional context on any of the photos in the comments section — just ask!
If you are interested in purchasing a print or the non-exclusive rights to one of the digital images, please contact me via email.

Thanks, Glenn. Yeah, life does get busy sometimes, don't it?! Over here in the PNW, it's all been a little too real the past few weeks-not in a good way...but we persevere, nonetheless. That Lonely Tree shot really embodies/symbolizes the starkness of the location.
