Welcome to another edition of “52 Weeks,” my Saturday series featuring seven random images taken during my photography career.
Each photo has a short caption that includes the place and month/year it was taken. For example, the one at the top of this post says simply, “Newsies on the roof — St. Louis, Mo., January 2016.”
Of course, there’s more to the story and to this photo, which was taken on the roof of the Fox Theatre where the show was playing. Our son, Ben (far left), was leaving the touring company and I went out to see his final performance. Boys being boys (or young men being young men, you pick), he and his friends wanted to commemorate the final show in a special way.
Cast members, who had been in the city for two weeks, had found a way to access the roof 12 stories above the ground. I had been photographing many of them when we visited various cities, and they asked if we could shoot photos on the roof. Not knowing what I was getting myself into, I said yes.
Fortunately, after a pitched climb (not recommended), there was a large flat space where they could jump safely. This was the last shot I took that day.
Let me know your thoughts on this photo and the six other random shots from this week. I’m happy to provide additional context on any of the photos in the comments section — just ask!
If you are interested in purchasing a print or the non-exclusive rights to one of the digital images, please contact me via email.
Enjoy, and have a great weekend!
A Note to Subscribers
“Our Reality Show” has paid subscriptions — monthly, annually, and founding member. If you can upgrade your subscription, that would be a wonderful show of support for my work. But if you can’t, that’s OK too.
New and current subscribers can still access all content here for free. Please continue to read, enjoy, and comment because that means the world to me. If you opt for a paid subscription, I promise to “pay it forward” by donating 25% of all revenue to worthy causes. I also will report those donations back to you.
Thank you for supporting “Our Reality Show.”
Love the West Texas sunset pic, but I'm also kinda fascinated by the junkyard one-- or more specifically, how a couple of the cars are wrapped in meeting. Why is it there? Do they come to the lot like that? Is it to keep things out? Keep things together?
like all photos but must say the roof shot was great!
