We like to reflect, as evidenced by the endless end-of-year lists that look back on bests, worsts and everything in between. The nostalgia industry is built on the fact that, at some point, adults will seek to reclaim or relive the comforts of their youthful memories.
Even though I’ve spent the majority of my life looking at and for what’s next, the reality of turning 60 also has made me reflect on events large and small that have taken place. In an essay that appeared yesterday, I revisited a major event that took place half a lifetime ago and how that shaped what I call life’s “second third.
In many respects, “Another 52 Weeks” is a weekly look back at images I’ve shot at various points over the past 15 years. So, in what is the first loosely themed post of the year, I decided to focus on reflections in photography.
Half of the dozen images in this post are from New York City. I easily could add a hundred more from my walks around Manhattan, where the buildings are so close that, depending on the sunlight and shadows, it’s hard not to see one superimposed on another. The rest are unconventional reflections that caught my eye.
I hope you enjoy them.
Reflections, turning 60...I'm pretty sure there's a metaphor somewhere in there. 😅 Happy Birthday, Glenn!
I'm a sucker for reflections, but these are really good. Thanks for sharing.
