Or: How we knew our child was going to be an actor...

In honor of tonight’s Tony Awards, I wanted to share a snapshot of how we knew our son was going to be an actor. At age 11, he started making movies with Christopher Cox, who Ben understudied in “Ragtime.”

Most were Nerf War videos done with a point-and-shoot digital camera with Chris writing the scripts and directing. Soon, after learned how to edit on iMovie, Ben started making his own short films.

Again, most were Nerf War clips (a couple have survived on YouTube), but this is his Broadway “tribute”…

I’m still waiting for the sequel.

Stage Dad
This series is designed to help parents understand what it takes to support a child who wants to pursue performing as a career. We’ve all seen the caricatures of the horrendous stage moms and dads — and, no question, they’re out there — but many want to do the best for their kids. And they often don’t know where to turn, where to start, or how to seek guidance. This is the place.
