A longtime friend, Todd Montgomery, asked recently for COVID-19 song list suggestions. Of course, Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” popped up, as did Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” because they’ve gone viral (no pun intended) since all of this mess started.
The best, in my opinion, is Buddy and Julie Miller’s cover of Richard Thompson’s magnificent “Keep Your Distance.” It somehow captures the unsettled mood of the time.
I provided a top 20 list from the ones Todd had received, then sought suggestions from my Facebook friends. The list quickly reached 60 (not counting the three mentioned above).
