A short update and Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there.
I’m spending this one, as I often have over the years, in a darkened theater taking photos. Given that all four of my children have been performers at certain points, it comes as no surprise, but it’s also special to me for a couple of reasons.
• Today’s performance of “Echo” marks the end of Metropolitan School of the Arts’ 25th season. Our family has been involved with the studio since the fall of 2003, and much of my photography life and journey started with taking pictures of my children at MSA performances. The photo that accompanies this post, in fact, is of Ben, Emma, and Kate during a production of “The Wizard of Oz.”
• That production, in 2008, was the first MSA recital following my father’s death the summer before. This photography journey that I’ve been on professionally for more than a decade started largely as a tribute to him. Every photo I take, in some way, helps keep his memory alive.
Updates
As mentioned in other posts recently, I’ve been on a constant run since April, and the sprint does not end until the week before the Fourth of July. Between now and then I’ll be in New York and Kansas City for multiple days, with events scheduled in D.C. as well.
A wave of assignments this past week kept me from pulling together “Another 52 Weeks” this past Saturday. (Another combined edition will be posted this Saturday, I promise.) I’m also working on a longer essay that I’ve started and stopped several times in the past two months. Be on the lookout for that at some point as well.
Finally, I realize I haven’t taken the time to say anything about the party held last month for my book — Keep Your Distance. It was a great time — about 40 people showed up, including my wife Jill and all four kids as well as Matt, Colby, and Gaby — and wonderful to receive such support.
A podcast featuring the interview and Q&A I did at the party was released last week. You can find it on Apple Podcasts or by clicking the Spotify link below.
Again, Happy Father’s Day!
Happy Father's Day, Glenn!
