Hello. You might wonder where I’ve been for the past few months.

In April, I opened a Substack account to help reboot my website, which disappeared during the pandemic when my web host shut down. Substack, which is designed for independent writers, offers a free and paid subscription element, with emails sent directly to you.

My plan was to develop a list of people interested in reading what I have to say about parenting, freelancing, the arts, and life, among other topics. And while that’s still the case, I’ve finally gotten around to putting some structure on it.

Because I’m a writer and photographer, I decided to put the two fields into separate websites. You can — and I hope you will — visit my general photography site as well as my Flickr page that now houses pictures from more than 90 concerts I’ve shot.

As far as what you have on your screen now, I’ve broken the writing site into three sections: “The Music Diaries,” “Magazine Writing,” and “Our Reality Show.”

The “Magazine Writing” section consists of descriptions and links to the freelance articles I’ve written for various state and national publications. Separate sections are devoted to articles published this year, in 2020, and from 2017-19. (It will be continuously updated.) If you’d like to see more long-form pieces, go over there, look at the descriptions, and click on a link. It’s that simple.

“The Music Diaries” are reviews, essays, and interviews. Since I started shooting concerts again in mid-September, I’ve had several reviews/photo sets published on the website Americana Highways, and they are compiled here. Over time, I also plan to publish pieces written pre-pandemic that you’ll find of interest.

As for “Our Reality Show,” this is where subscribers will get general updates and essays about life and everything else in between. I promise to send updates out to your email only once a week — unless something extraordinary happens — and include links to see pieces in other sections that you may have missed.
