Memorial Day
A short visual tribute to those who served and died while protecting our country
One of the best things about living in the Washington, D.C., area is the access we have to the numerous museums and memorials honoring our nation’s history. Touring the memorials at night — highly recommended, BTW — was one of our kids’ favorite things to do when everyone was together.
Our stubborn and contrarian democracy has its share of flaws — at times, like now, more than others. And the collective embrace and acceptance of our often-messy history seems out of reach in favor of a heroes vs. villains storyline.
The memorials in our nation’s capital allow you to pause and pay tribute to those soldiers, activists, and political leaders who have made sacrifices to protect that democracy and the opportunities it represents. On this Memorial Day, I wanted to share a short visual tribute to our military personnel who died while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.
