NYC 2023: Street Scenes
I didn't spend much time this year in my favorite city to photograph, but a few images caught my eye
New York is my favorite city to photograph for a number of reasons. There’s so much to do and see and chronicle 24-7-365, and it’s where my love for the medium kicked into high gear more than a decade ago, starting with a series of photos I called “Street Scenes.”
For the past 14 years, including three where we had an apartment there, we’ve made the planes, trains, automobiles, and — for a time — buses trip up and back to “the city” more times than I can count. And without fail, I’ve always had my camera nearby, waiting to capture the things that catch my eye.
During that time, I’ve shot more than 10,000 images in New York, but for myriad reasons personal and professional, 2023 saw me capture only a handful of “creative art” photos that I found worthy of sharing.
A goal for 2024 is to be more intentional in my creative pursuits, including a return to the street and landscape photography I love most. We spent time with our twins in New York this past weekend for Christmas, and I shot some photos that I liked. I decided to combine them with a few random pictures I caught during my three other brief trips to the city in 2023 and share them here.
Welcome to Street Scenes, the 2023 version. Here are a few more images:
I have posted two additional “Visual Stories” that focus on photography in New York City. The first, “NYC: Remastered,” is about a series of images taken from 2009-2011 that I’ve since re-edited.
The second is a series of photos I took in the city at the start of the pandemic:
If you get the chance, check out those images as well. As always, all thoughts and comments welcome and appreciated!
starting the. New Year enjoying your pictures and story. Happy New Year!
