Places: Naples, Italy
Take a stroll with me around this fascinating, colorful, and gritty city
Few things bring me greater joy and peace than walking around a new city with my camera, capturing the random things that catch my eye. That’s what sparked my suddenly fervent interest in the medium 15 years ago and continues to inspire me creatively today.
Earlier this year, my wife and I took our first vacation abroad since prior to the pandemic, visiting Italy for the second time. The first trip, in 2017, took us to Venice and Burano for four days. For our trip in May, we extended our stay to nine days, booking places in Amalfi, Naples, and Rome.
What made the trip so lovely — besides the scenery, the food, and the company — was a mix of planned outings/tours and time to just roam around. Two weeks ago, I published a short “Visual Story” from our tour of the underground Galleria Borbonica in Naples, and plan to post others from the journey in future weeks.
For this installment, I’m staying in Naples with 20 random images. Our visit to this fascinating, colorful, and gritty city was a welcome and interesting visual contrast to the other places we saw on the trip, and I think those descriptors are reflected in the images here.
But I’m more interested in hearing what you think. If something catches your eye, good or bad, please let me know in the comments, and thank you for reading.
Lots of doors, doorways, alleys...makes me think of movement (towards and from), possibilities, optimism of something just beyond. I've only been to Italy once, nearly 20 years ago, but I'll never forget the light there. Thanks for sharing, Glenn!
