The madness that is March is in full bloom

Change is in the air as we arrive at the middle of March.
Finally the NCAA basketball tournament is about to begin. What was once March Madness now extends into April, but that seems somewhat appropriate, given everything else that is going on these days.
The time change gives us another hour of sun, but affects all of our body clocks as we wait until November to get back the precious 60 minutes of sleep that were lost. Even though we’re five days from the official start, spring allergies already are in full bloom here. The weather has been so up and down that the Cherry Blossoms (see last week’s entry) actually peaked last Saturday — two weeks earlier than usual.
And mercifully (or not), the freelance work that was non-existent for the first two months of the year is starting to come in droves.
One thing — besides the presidential candidates — remains the same: “52 Weeks.” So let’s take a look at this set. Which one(s) do you like the most?

Two ‘Visual Stories’ You May Have Missed
An Empty Manhattan
Almost four years ago, on the first day of spring, I drove to New York City. It’s a trip I’ve made countless times over the past 15 years by car, train, and bus, so it should have been old hat by then. But it wasn’t. Like the rest of the country, on March 21, 2020, New York City was shutting down due to Covid-19.
Places: Nashville, Night and Morning
The last time I ventured into downtown Nashville was to see John Hiatt play with the Jerry Douglas Band at the Ryman Auditorium. I had flown into the city, rented a car, and was staying overnight before heading down to Muscle Shoals, Ala., for a music festival.

The hardware store file cabinet reminds me of the Ace Hardware near me, where there real value is the institutional knowledge of the old timers that work there.
