Great piece and amazing photos of a rock legend in my book. I got to film a couple of concerts and an interview with him back in 2000 in San Francisco and he was so down to earth.
Fascinating interview! Although I'm not as familiar with Escovedo's work as you, I've followed his work since the mid-nineties (even photographing him at The Hamilton a few years back). There's a clip floating around on the internets of Michael Caine talking about "using the difficulty" in one's craft. Seems like all great artists have mastered the art of turning adversity into beauty.
Wonderful, Glenn! Thanks for sharing. Alejandro is one of my heroes and I had the good fortune to open for him several years ago. He and his band were kind and supportive. The publicist I'm working with on my new record used to manage Alejandro and she raves about what a good guy he is. I'm so glad I got to catch him in Santa Fe recently (and having James Mastro in the band is a bonus, too!).
I love Alejandro's definition of Americana completely agree.

Thanks, Steve! I could have talked to him all day.

He's had a great deal of adversity in his life. The memoir should be a fascinating read.
Great talk with Alejandro! He’s truly a wonderful soul.
He is indeed. I can't wait to read his memoir.
