Is Gruene Hall a grange? We have one, supposedly the oldest operating one in the US, the Bennett Valley Grange. I'm creating an event for it; the place is fabulous for its character and its place in the community.
I don't think it is, although looking at the Grange website it appears that they served similar functions. In Texas, they're known as dance halls, but they also were community gathering places in small rural towns. Interestingly, Gruene opened five years after Bennett Valley.
