It’s truly a miracle that the recording studio was preserved- hermetically sealed during all those years there was a barbershop in what used to be the reception/office area of Memphis Recording Service/Sun Records.

Memphis, like many of these midsized cities, is fascinating. The buildings, like Stax and American Sound, that were torn down or significantly altered is a huge loss to history. And yet, there's Sun, still standing.

As a musician that grew up listening to all of the records made in that studio I remember the first time I stood on the "X" and touched the walls and ground where Rock N Roll for the masses was basically born. To record there was a check mark on the bucket list and was a religious experience for me that's indescribable to "civilians" (non-musicians). That building is holy ground and the recordings that came from there the gospel.

Guralnick's biography of Phillips is masterful and at the end, quite emotional. A pilgrimage to Memphis is one my bucket list - one day!
