So much to love in this essay. It’s the love that you clearly feel for the main characters in this piece -- Your grandmother, The Band, Jason Isbell -- and by extension, all those connected to them, that shines brightest here.

This passage stuck out in particular (and could be a mantra to live by): I don’t have to like it,” she said on another afternoon when I caught her checking out MTV in its nascent days. “But I won’t know what I like unless I watch and listen.”
